AFTER four extraordinary days that have left Newcastle United torn apart, the latest twist of the St James’ Park soap opera takes place at lunch-time today.
Newcastle’s very own badboy, Joey Barton, will appear in front of a Football Association disciplinary panel to answer charges relating to an assault on former Manchester City team-mate Ousmane Dabo.
Barton, who received a suspended prison sentence for the incident last year, has pleaded guilty and he could be handed a lengthy suspension, with predictions that he will be banned for 15 matches.
Kevin Keegan, whose time at the club came to an end last night, had originally intended to support his controversial midfielder.
But, just 38 days after Barton was released from spending two months in prison for a separate offence, Keegan’s departure means he won’t have his biggest ally alongside him.
It was Keegan’s desire to retain Barton in his squad that helped contribute to a situation that has ended with him leaving his post.
