Hartlepool United saw off the challenge of Fleetwood Town – but not without a fright.
Danny Wilson's side fell behind on 14 minutes before taking control and, even at 3-1 up, the Blue Square North side reduced the gap and were always a threat.
Fleetwood took the lead when Andy Bell latched onto a quick free-kick to net after the Pools defence were caught napping, but it took just three minutes to level.
Michael Mackay volleyed in from an angle from a Jamie McCunnie through ball and the striker then gave Pools a spectacular lead just 77 seconds after the restart when he turned 18 yards from goal and dipped his shot over keeper Danny Hurst high into the net.
When Joel Porter tapped in an Antony Sweeney cross, it should have been game over.
But Adam Warlow was allowed to run through the visiting defence to reduce the gap and lead to an edge last 20 minutes for Pools.
Wilson's side had a late scare when the home side pumped a succession of balls into the danger zone, but they stood firm.
Pools will be ball number 57 in Sunday's draw.
