Cup win takes its toll

ROY KEANE will assess his injury-list this morning after last night’s Carling Cup win at Nottingham Forest arrived at a cost.
Steed Malbranque was already in the dressing room after a first half injury, before new signings Djibril Cisse and David Healy left the pitch limping at full-time.
And Keane, grateful to Healy’s extra-time winner after Phil Bardsley had cancelled out Robert Earnshaw’s 60th minute opener, said: “Steed has twisted his calf and ankle and is doubtful for Sunday (Manchester City).
“We had a couple of other injuries and we will have a look in the morning. We played with ten men from 70 minutes onwards because Cisse got cramp.
“But our back four were excellent.
We gave away a poor goal but we responded.
“David Healy was hobbling around but I would hope it won’t be as bad tomorrow because of his goal.”
Sunderland’s latest signing, Anton Ferdinand, has claimed he was given no choice but to leave West Ham after the club accepted an £8m offer for him.
“I’d been offered a new deal by West Ham but when Sunderland came in with a bid that offer was withdrawn,”
said Ferdinand. “Once I spoke to Roy Keane I knew it was where I wanted to be.”
