DESPITE the absence of injured Kenwyne Jones through injury, manager Roy Keane has chosen to leave four strikers on the bench rather than field two recognised strikers at the Albufeira Municipal Stadium.
Anthony Stokes, Rade Prica, Michael Chopra and Roy O’Donovan were all named on the bench to face Sporting Lisbon in the Black Cats’ first pre-season friendly.
Facing them was a familiar face to the North-East over the last few seasons. Fabio Rochemback, who left Middlesbrough in May, was included at the hub of the Sporting midfield.
SPORTING: Tiago; Carrico, Adrien, Pereirinha, Abel; Izmailov, Ronny, Rochemback, Derlei; Yannick. Subs (not used): Batista, Golas, Silva, Vukcevic, Caneira, Tonel, Grimi, Tiui, Romangoli.
SUNDERLAND: Gordon; Bardsley, Nosworthy, Collins, Wallace; Edwards, Whitehead, Reid, Richardson; Yorke, Murphy. Subs (not used): Ward, Fulop, Higginbotham, Anderson, Stokes, Kavanagh, Leadbitter, O’Donovan, Chopra, Prica.
