A STORE offered a chink of light in the economic gloom by creating a dozen new jobs in Shildon.
Discount store Below opens in Unit 2, Church Street next Friday (December 5), offering healthcare, beauty, and baby products at low prices.
Bishop Auckland MP Helen Goodman said it was tremendous news for Shildon, and added: "This is proof that even in a difficult economic climate, there are still opportunities for people with good ideas to open new businesses."
The Shildon branch will become the seventh Below to open in the North East over the past year.
Elsewhere in Shildon, a new Co-operative store opened for business on Thursday.
The store on Redworth Road underwent a £140,000 refurbishment to extend and improve facilities.
