A COLLEGE is celebrating after being given top marks by a team of Government inspectors.

The Ofsted officials inspected every facet of life at Northallerton College and found it to be good with a number of outstanding features - and had nothing but praise for its students.

They said the college had improved significantly since the last inspection in 2005, offering a good level of care, guidance and support with an outstanding curriculum that enhanced learning opportunities for students.

Northallerton College has 853 students aged 14 to 18 including 361 sixth-formers.

Among other things the report highlighted the positive contribution the college makes to the local community and the close links it has develop with the Dales Special School, schools abroad and the Yorkshire Faith Forum.

Inspector Christopher Keeler said: "The principal and management team have a good understanding of what is good about the college and what can improve it further. It’s an inclusive college where the needs of every student come first."

However he also highlighted two areas for further development including raising standards of English at Key Stage 4 and increasing the skills of subject leaders.

College principal Mick Hill said: "We are delighted with the Ofsted report which shows us just how far we have come in the past three years.

"We have worked tirelessly to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere in college and the students have responded wonderfully, wanting to come and develop the life skills they need to thrive."
