THE eight Citizens Advice Bureaux that serve North Yorkshire officially launched their joint annual report yesterday.
The report celebrated the contribution of volunteers - and highlighted the importance of advice and how it impacted on people’s lives.
Between them the 220 volunteers at the eight bureaux contributed the equivalent of over £1m worth of time helping people resolve their problems over the last year.
Advisers dealt with 55,000 new client issues including gains of benefit and tax credit of over £5m and advice on debts of over £28m. "These are impressive figures," said Rosemary Bullimore, chair of Hambleton CAB, which hosted the launch at it offices in Northallerton High Street.
"We are all very proud of the service we offer and are sure our new joint report demonstrates that the success of our advice services helps everyone in North Yorkshire."
The report also shows how the advice service works with many other organisations, both to help individual people and in planning for the future and how the bureaux contribute to North Yorkshire’s sustainable communities strategy.
*The service helps people resolve their legal, money and other problems by providing free, independent and confidential advice, and by influencing policymakers.
Every Citizens Advice Bureau is a registered charity reliant on trained volunteers.
