A BABY and its parents were injured when a car smashed into their cottage early today.

A Mercedes E200 crashed through their bedroom wall in their home on St Mark's Road, Sunderland, where the family were sleeping at 2.31am.

Witnesses saw a number of males were seen running away from the accident.

The vehicle, along with a Vauxhall Vectra, was found abandoned at the scene of the accident.

A 16-year-old youth was arrested nearby on suspicion of failing to stop at the scene of an accident but it is not yet known if he was the driver or a passenger.

The family suffered minor injuries caused by falling debris and are staying with relatives.
