A woman was left seriously injured after being hit by a car in Chester-le-Street.

Police are appealing for dashcam and CCTV footage of the incident, which happened at about 6.20pm on Front Street in the town on Saturday, April 6.

The woman, who was walking along a footpath next to the road, was hit by a silver Peugeot.

She was left in hospital with serious injuries.

An investigation was launched and police are now urging anyone who witnessed the incident, or who has CCTV or dashcam footage, to come forward to assist them.

A Durham Police spokesperson said: “It is believed the driver of a silver Peugeot collided with a pedestrian, who was walking along the path. The woman was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

“Enquires are ongoing. Officers are keen to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident or with CCTV/dashcam footage, please contact PC Whitfield on 101 quoting CRI00538676.”
