FIREFIGHTERS tackled a blaze in garages and outbuildings in the grounds of Stanhope Castle, County Durham, in the early hours of this morning.
Crews wore breathing apparatus and face masks because of the risk posed by asbestos in the L-shaped buildings, which form part of the castle wall.
Police closed the road and members of the public turned out to watch.
Police and fire experts are there this morning trying to establish how the fire started around 1.30am.
