No charges for man Tasered after girl's death
KILLED: Hayley Adamson
KILLED: Hayley Adamson

NO further action is to be taken against a man who was stunned with a Taser after a 16-year-old girl was knocked down and killed by a police car.

The 23-year-old, believed to be the boyfriend of the dead girl, was arrested on Monday night in the Scotswood area of Newcastle when police were pelted with bricks after Hayley Adamson was fatally wounded by the patrol car.

He was freed on Tuesday and police have said he will not face criminal charges.

The officer who was driving the car which struck Miss Adamson at 11.20pm on Denton Road, has been suspended, pending an investigation by the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC).

A Northumbria Police spokesman said: "The man who was arrested was released and faces no further action. We cannot comment on the arrest as it forms part of the IPCC investigation.

"We can confirm that the police officer who was driving the marked police car involved in the incident, is currently suspended from operational duties, which includes driving."

Police said the Scotswood area was back to normal after tensions ran high in the wake of the tragedy.

Supt Dave Wormald, of the neighbourhood policing team in Newcastle, said: "We continue to extend our sympathy to Hayley's family and friends.

"We deeply regret the loss of a young life and share in the sadness being felt by the whole community."

He said there had been no trouble in the area on Tuesday night after the police appealed for calm.

Ms Adamson, of Cedar Street, Fenham, was completing her GCSE exams and was due to leave Sacred Heart RC High School.

Her sister Sarah Ridley paid tribute to her on an internet memorial site.

She said: "I am missing you so much. You were not only my little sister, you were my best friend.

"I will miss you for the rest of my life and Hayley darling once again I am sorry that I was not there, I will make sure we get justice for you.

"I will always love and miss you, love you loads always, till we meet again."
