MAKING LIFE L'

WHY is the Ravensdale Road area of Darlington targeted by so many driving schools?

Every few minutes one comes along, dodging in and out of parked cars, children and dogs.

To any instructors reading this letter - could you please take your cars to another area for a change.

When I learned to drive, friends took me out for lessons at very quiet times to disused airfields and car parks, and we managed perfectly well.

With the amount of traffic on our roads, perhaps we should be thinking about cutting down on the number of new cars, as the problem is only going to get much worse.

Come on, driving instructors, be inventive and vary your route, and ideas. - Rosemary Perkins, Darlington.

I'm not a driving insructor but do know they favour the wide, leafy, quiet streets of the towns west end rather than the cluttered, double parked central areas for obvious reasons...it seems Rosemary's a classic example of the "not on my doorstep" brigade...out of interest Rosemary- how many accidents have been caused by these learner drivers?I'm willing to wager it's nowhere near the amount caused by "experienced" drivers in the same area

She should have lived in the Corporation Rd area when the test centre was based there but bet learners didn't get same snobbery from residents there. And if taught in airfield there is no way anyone is going to pass their test in a congested town such as D'ton the testers want to know that a driver can drive safely anywhere especially in congested areas and in the lucky suburban ares. Pity instead of taking the writer to an airfield what good is that are they on the test? The instructor should have taught them how to park in their drives, or isn't their enough room for all the families cars in the drive. And I wonder are these the same people who phone up for their kids lessons and say to instructors I want my son/daughter to pass his/her test as soon as possible and can you take him or her on the main test route drag. Hypochrisy?

I'm not sure what you are **** about really.

At least in the rest of town most of the children are in school whilst driving lessons are taking place and dogs are kept on leads.

Rosemary, you chose to live in a chav area you have to put up with the chav children and dogs.

I'm a believer,
I don't think Ravensdale Road could be classed as a chav area.
Very little happens around there. (except for the occasional learner driver of course)
Maybe you are getting mixed up with Harrowgate Hill or Cockerton.

Don't know if it is the case for Ravensdale Road but most driving instructors tend to follow the routes used in the actual driving test.

Hi my name is Rosemary and i did not write the above comment directed at me. I live in the whinefield area of the town and yes yes yes we do also have learner driver in authorised cars but must add that they tend to be within the school times etc!!!!!

I can't believe what i'm reading here. I agree with what dave says. Rosemary we all had to learn how to drive , learner drivers are under instruction with a qualified driving instructor who have duel control of the car. For once I am almost lost for words. Maybe you should consider moving a few miles out of town where the only wheels you see are carts pulled by horses. Jeezzzz

I thnk you'll find that instructors use this area as the streets are wider for turns in the road and also this is one of the only (if not the only) area where there is an unmarked crossroad which needs to be addressed as part of the test. If instructors didn't teach learners this there would be a lot of accidents in your area and i'm sure you don't want that!
