A TEACHER suspended for accessing right-wing websites at a County Durham school is considering legal action against education chiefs.

Former RAF weapons technician Mark Walker has been suspended from Sunnydale Community College, in Shildon, pending an internal inquiry.

The technology teacher, from Spennymoor, in County Durham, was found to have accessed the BNP's website during school hours.

The school suspended him for "misuse of school equipment" and an internal investigation is ongoing.

Mr Walker and his union, Solidarity, are now threatening legal action against the school or education authority Durham County Council after discovering it hosted an anti-fascist meeting.

A different teachers' union, Unison, is understood to have invited staff to the meeting in opposition to "fascist infiltration" of schools and apparently backed Mr Walker's suspension.

Peter Harrington, general secretary of Solidarity, said: "It is ludicrous that a meeting against fascism was held at a school where a teacher has been suspended, we believe, for being a member of the BNP."

It is understood that Mr Walker hopes to return to teaching at Sunnydale.

Mr Walker's brother, Adam, quit his job as a technology teacher at Houghton Kepier School, in Houghton-le-Spring, after he was also suspended for viewing the same websites during school hours.
