Don’t lose your head!...The 6 queens of the hit musical SIX! arrived on the stage at the Stockton Globe Theatre this month, for a one week run. But what’s the history of this over 100-year-old theatre, and what is the award-winning musical truly about?

The Globe was first built in 1913, the original plan for the building to be one of Teesside’s first purpose-built cinemas. However, over the years, the Globe has been subject to multiple demolitions, the first occurring shortly after its opening in 1925. Throughout its lifespan, the theatre has been many different venues, and hosted many different acts and performances. It had been central to Stockton for over 100 years, drawing in visitors from cross the northeast with its stated and timeless infrastructure and décor, to its range of new and exciting shows hitting its doors from across the country, the most recent being SIX! the musical.

Tuesday 7th of February welcomed the infamous queens of Henry VIII to the acclaimed Globe stage for a week long run in the North East. Their story follows the tale of the 6 wives of Henry VIII who was arguably the most infamous Tudor royal.  His tumultuous reign and love life caused the split in mass religion through England between the Catholic and Protestant ideals. However, SIX!, in essence, is an hour and a half musical writing the wrongs of the past. The six queens each take to the stage with electrifying musical numbers, each attempting to tell their part of royal history in their own way – showing a new and unique view of the story from their points of view, despite what the history books tell us.

The show is full of fast paced, incredible vocal performances, both group and solo numbers, joined onstage by a live band, creating an almost concert like feel to the show. Since its conception, the show has been a smash hit, with extended runs on both the West End and on Broadway. Their visit to the Globe was a roaring success and they continue across the country on their UK tour.
