A BROTHER and sister will help a paralysed friend around the Great North Run course tomorrow.

Nick and Serena Schellenberg, from Richmond, North Yorkshire, will join a team of six pushing Bill Shand Kydd along the 13-mile route.

Mr Shand Kydd -whose half-brother was the stepfather of Diana, Princess of Wales -broke his neck in a horse riding accident ten years ago. He was left paralysed from the neck down and relies on a ventilator to breathe. The team is raising money for Spinal Research.

Mr Shand Kydd said: "After spending 14 months in a spinal injury unit, I had a profound appreciation of the appalling consequences of paralysis, and since then have been determined to do whatever I can to help Spinal Research.

"I strongly believe in the not-too-distant future we will be able to repair the spinal cord and reverse the devastating effects of paralysis."

Mr Shand Kydd is a long-time friend of the father of Nick and Serena, Keith Schellenberg.

The team includes Angus Ropner, from Camp Hill, Bedale, North Yorkshire.
