THOUSANDS of people gathered at the weekend for a show's 30th anniversary.

Organisers estimated that up to 10,000 people attended North Yorkshire County Show, at Otterington Hall, near Northallerton, yesterday.

Crowds basked in warm sunshine for most of the day, despite the occasional dark cloud threatening.

Among the attractions were a Shetland pony grand national and a parade of animals, classic cars, vintage machinery and traction engines.

As well as the cattle and sheep competitions, there was bungee trampolining and a climbing wall for the more adventurous.

Bedale Brass Band also entertained throughout the day.

Co-president Anne Preston said: "North Yorkshire County Show, with its many attractions, allows the farming industry to show off its wares and, at the same time, is a wonderful social occasion, where old friends meet and reminisce. The enthusiasm and hard work of everybody involved in organising the show has been wonderful, and the weather has been kind."

The show hosted the largest poultry show in the North, with rabbits, ferrets and rats all on display.

There were 19 food stands, selling mainly locally produced food and drink, as well as more than 70 trade stalls.
