Tags for toddlers at seaside resort

WRISTBANDS to tag children in case they get lost will be available ro parents visiting one of Britain's most famous seaside resorts this summer.

Lifeguards in Skegness, Lincolnshire, will provide parents with the tags, on which they can write their names and mobile telephone numbers.

East Lindsey District Council, which covers the resort, said that last year 46 children were found after becoming separated from their parents along its coastline.

Millions of holiday-makers are expected to visit Skegness this year.

Sandra Harrison, who is in charge of health and well-being at East Lindsey District Council, said: "Knowing your children are safe and that the family can have an enjoyable holiday where people keep an eye out for each other is an important issue for many parents.

"As a family holiday destination safety and security of families is one of our fundamental priorities."

Hazel Harding, chairman of the Local Government Associations safer communities board, said: "On a hot summer's day there can be hundreds, if not thousands, of people on our beaches. It's very easy for a young child to wander off.

"Tagging your toddler allows lifeguards to get families safely through the day by quickly reuniting lost children with their parents."
