This is another nail in the coffin for rural communities in this country. When these Post offices go, the shops that are attached go also.

As a business user of Wolviston Court post office I find it unjust that a busy and well used post office serving the local community should be closed. The owners have improved the local post office no end and offer a wide range of services. Action needs to be taken to stop this mindless cost cutting process.

Royal Mail Group are making it clear that they only recognise big business as customers. The rest of the general public are just an inconvenience to be reluctantly tolerated. Remember that any parcels that are currently left at local post offices for collection will have to be collected from the main delivery office in Stockton. Some service from a 100% publically owned company.

The Tudhoe Colliery branch closure will be no loss to me. The service is so bad I walk to Spennymoor instead. However, a great hardship to the old and infirm.

I have had vivid experience, (as millions of others have across the uk) of the utter devastation this current New Labour government causes to those who are forced into putting their trust into them to protect their welfare and the social fabric around them.

The Royal Mail and its post offices, like Remploy whom I work for are classic examples of this. 2 industries afflicted by deliberate declines to meet a political objective. One totally alien from the original purpose of why they were created in the first place.

If this prosed consulation is anyhting like the one that is being ignored by Remploy and the government the only option people will have is to vote this incompetent government out.

Is this the aim of ordinary labour Party members. I can't belive it is. If so then they should be leading the fight through the next 6 weeks to make their own views absolutely clear to these new Labour career politicians.

If the Cleveland Terrace PO in Darlington my 91year old mother-in-law
loses her short walk access to obtain cash for day to day shopping. I am sure many other elderly people are affected all over the north-east. How can this rotten Government be so heartless?

I live near fraserburgh with my family and my family all stay in fraserburgh beside the broadsea post office which we use on a daily basis. I think to close this post office is a disgusting idea and very selfish on the goverments part because hundreds of people use it every week.

j.d.brown, Stockton says...

The loss of the vital services offered by the post offices is a national disgrace. We have a government who have taken away our birthright and given that to europe without any consent being given to do so. We have gestapo operating in town halls as mini-governments. Our utilities are owned by foreign sources who now control gas, electricity, water. The accountants are now deciding where the next cuts are to be made with no thought of people. The post offices are vital for older citizens but they don't count in the current status in fact it would be better to allow them to take a tablet when they retire... that way pensions would not be affected for those who are lucky to be inflation proofed! This country has been ruined by the actions over the last years those that have have more and those that don't have nothing. Talk about Robin Hood in reverse!
