Plans for £300m film studio submitted

PLANS to create a £300 million film studio have been submitted to a North-East council.
A consortium led by Seaham Hall Hotel owner Tom Maxfield wants to build a film village, which could create up to 2,400 jobs, at Dawdon, in east Durham.
A planning application for the Centre for Creative Excellence (CCE) has been filed with Easington District Council.
If the council gives the go ahead, the centre could include seven studios, lecture theatres, post-production buildings, two hotels, student accommodation and conference facilities.
Sunderland University and East Durham and Houghall College have expressed an interest in becoming involved in the education side of the project, which could include places for up to 2,000 students.
The plans also include an outdoor swimming pool, sports hall, spa, gym and running track.
Details can be viewed on the council's website and will go on display at the offices of Seaham Town Council and the Glebe Centre, in Murton, early in the new year.
A formal public consultation will begin in January.
The scale of the plans mean they will be debated by a full meeting of Easington District Council, rather than the customary development control committee. They are likely to be discussed next month.
