FIVE people had to be rescued after their 4x4s got stuck on a road that was classed as unsuitable for motors.
The group, from Darlington, are thought to have gone for an afternoon of off road driving in the Yorkshire Dales in two Land Rovers.
They called Swaledale Mountain Rescue at 2.45pm on Sunday to say they had become bogged down and were unable to walk away from their vehicles because one of the party was paraplegic.
Paul Denning, mountain rescue team controller, said the group were unsure of their location, which turned out to be close to Summer Lodge Tarn, around three miles south of Gunnerside.
Mr Denning said: "It was very icy on the tops and the driving conditions on the roads were quite difficult."
