Yorkshire have called a press conference today where they are expected to unveil former player Darren Gough as their new captain.
But it is still not clear who is to be the new Director of Cricket, with Durham coach Martyn Moxon yesterday linked with the job.
Moxon has said he is committed to Durham, who offered him improved terms and an extended contract when Yorkshire tried to lure him back three years ago.
But the Tykes are believed to have made another approach to their former captain, whose Wetherby home is much closer to Headingley than Chester-le-Street.
Barnsley-born Gough, 36, looks set to confirm his return to Yorkshire after three seasons with Essex.
Chief executive Stewart Regan admitted last week that the county had been in discussions with the former England paceman.
Essex had offered Gough - who is England's top one-day wicket taker with 235 victims - a new contract but the chance to skipper his home county appears to have been too hard to resist.
The move was approved yesterday by England captain, Michael Vaughan.
"Darren is a Yorkshireman through and through and it would be good to see him at Headingley again," said Vaughan.
Gough's close friend Paul Grayson, with whom he played at both Yorkshire and Essex, has emerged as a strong candidate for a role at Headingley.
Others in the frame for the Director of Cricket post include South Africans Allan Donald and Kepler Wessels, although the latter looks a long shot following his lack of success with Northamptonshire.
Former Australia and Durham batsman Dean Jones has also expressed an interest, along with ex-Surrey coach Keith Medleycott.
Two-time Pakistan coach Richard Pybus was considered but he is now in charge of Middlesex after agreeing a deal with the county this month.
Essex captain Ronnie Irani conceded that Gough looked certain to rejoin the Tykes.
''One thing's for sure, he's not going to be playing for Essex, he said. ''He's as strong as an ox and he could carry on for another two, three or four years."
