‘Involve people to address stem cell concerns’

8:23am Friday 16th May 2008

ALL efforts should be made to keep the public involved in biotechnology developments to allay concerns, a panel of North- East experts has warned.

A panel - comprising some of the region's leading names in science, engineering and technology - discussed biotechnology's development in the North-East and UK with an audience.

The summit, held at NetPark, in County Durham, was organised by County Durham Development Company.

Mike Asher, chief executive of the Centre of Excellence for Life Sciences, said dialogue was important to help address fears, particularly over issues like stem cell research.

"There is an exciting future for biotechnology," he said.
