Petite businesswoman with big ambitions

A PETITE woman was so fed up of struggling to find clothes to fit her, she has set up her own on-line fashion store.

Faye Clements, 24, who is 5ft, decided to set up her Shortbred business from her home in Thirsk, North Yorkshire, after being made redundant last year.

This weekend, her on-line store will officially open for business, offering her own range of humorous T-shirts that celebrate and poke fun at the petite frame.

But she hopes to expand to other clothing lines for women under 5ft 3in and eventually get them into department stores.

Miss Clements said: "It was always a nightmare going shopping, there was never much about for petite women and quite often the clothes in shops with petite sections were quite boring.

"I have had the idea for the business for a while and even had the name, but I didn't pursue it until I was made redundent last June and decided to do my own thing.

"The slogans I came up with are a mixture of old cliches such as titch' and I wish my legs were longer', and my own design ideas using the Shortbred name, which I hope will become a respected and recognised name in its own right."

Miss Clements was able to set up her business with the help of funding from Hambleton District Council.

Her T-shirts will be available from Saturday. Visit shortbred.co.uk for details.

I like the sound of what you are coming up with.It is about time someone came up with clothes shops for the shorter person.I am 22 yrs old and 4'9 and half. Most of the time i end up with kids style clothes or i buy a pair of adult trousers and even the short length is over a foot long.Good job my mum is a dab hand at doing my trousers.I tend to get laughed at when i go shopping for clothes has people know i am not a kid. Most of the time i am like eye level to 9 yr old kids.Who think it is funny when they are still taller than me.I couldnt even wear my siblings clothes has they had to be taken up.I hope to hear more about what you are planning to do that would be great

That sounds like a grand idea for sorting out a shop for people under 5'3.I am 55 yrs old now and most of my life i have had to struggle with finding clothes for a short person or buy kids clothes.I did used to be 4'10 but has we all know that we shrink has we get older so at my last physical with the nurse i was told i am now 4'8and abit.So it was a shock to me unless i was kidding myself that i was 4'10 in the first place ha ha.I have 2 grandchildren taller than me and they are 8 yrs old so we checked all our heights and YES i did come out at the shortest.I have always had to alter my clothes even my mum did them for me.
So i think alot of people would be greatful
